Voter Guide Intake

As a candidate, you may provide a statement and photo for inclusion in the voter guide. Your statement and photo must be submitted BEFORE filing your nomination paper. Once you file your nomination paper, you may not add, edit, or remove your candidate statement or photo. Submission of a statement or photo is optional. If no statement or photo is provided, a phrase such as No Statement or No Photo will appear next to your candidate information.

This email will only be used to contact the candidate regarding their statement submission. The email provided on the Application for a Nomination Paper will be published in the voter guide.

Pursuant to HRS §11-122, your statement must be less than 150 words. Please review your statement for spelling and grammatical errors. Statements will be printed as submitted.

Candidate information from your application will be included in the guide and will not count towards the word limit. Information includes: Legal Name, Ballot Name, Office, Party Affiliation, Phone, Email, Website.

TIPS: Proofread carefully – treat it like a resume. Focus on what matters to your community. Share your goals and vision (what you aim to accomplish if elected). Highlight relevant experience (what qualifies you for the office). Stay positive – avoid criticizing opponents. The candidate statement may be rejected if it contains obscene and/or profane language. If you need to save your statement before submitting, use another program such as Microsoft Word.

Photo should be recent, portrait style, front facing, showing your face and shoulders. For best results, use a plain, solid, light-colored background. The Office of Elections will not edit or alter any photos. Photo must be of sufficient resolution to be printed at 3 inches x 3 inches (900 x 900 pixels). Items that can be construed as representing an organization should not be used.

TIPS: Use a recent headshot (face and shoulders, portrait style). Show only you (no group shots). Avoid filters or heavy editing – your photo should reflect how you look. Use natural lighting and avoid harsh shadows. Ensure photo is clear, not blurry or pixelated.
