Posted on Sep 3, 2024 in Newsletters

Aloha,

September 17th is National Voter Registration Day! We’re celebrating all month long to make sure that Hawaii residents get registered ahead of the General Election on November 5.

What is National Voter Registration Day?

National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrated every September to create awareness of voter registration and reach voters who may not already be registered to vote. According to the National Voter Registration Day organization, over 5 million voters have registered to vote on the holiday to date.

Celebrate by Taking Action!

Here are some ways you can join in on the celebration:

  • Make sure that your own voter registration is up to date
  • Spread voter registration awareness in your community

You can find more information about registering to vote at our Voter Registration page. But here’s a quick overview:

Who can register to vote?

You must be:

  • A U.S. citizen
  • A resident of Hawaii
  • At least 16 years old (That’s right! You can pre-register at 16, and automatically be registered to vote and cast your ballot once you turn 18.)

What is the quickest way to register?

Online! Register online at elections.hawaii.gov using your phone or tablet in a matter of minutes. You’ll need a Hawaii Driver License or Hawaii State ID to use the system.

How do I know if my registration is up to date?

Check that your residence and mailing addresses are current using the online system at elections.hawaii.gov or give us a call at (808) 453-VOTE (8683).

With no Hawaii ID, how else can I register?

If you don’t have a Hawaii Driver License or Hawaii State ID, no problem. Register by completing a paper Voter Registration Application. In box 3b, you’ll need to provide the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number as your form of identification. Print the application or drop by any State Public Library or U.S. Post Office to pick up a copy. Submit your application to your County Elections Division. Their address is on the application.
