Candidate Filing Opens for the 2020 Elections

PEARL CITY, January 28, 2020 Candidates seeking elective office can obtain nomination papers beginning Monday, February 3, 2020. All candidates must complete and file a nomination paper to appear on the ballot for the 2020 Elections. The requirements to file include obtaining signatures from a minimum number of voters in the district of the office sought. The deadline to file nomination papers is June 2, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.

The Application for a Nomination Paper and information about candidate filing, such as the qualifications and requirements of the offices up for election, are available online at elections.hawaii.gov. Those interested in becoming a candidate may obtain and file their nomination paper at various locations statewide.

Election officials also want to remind voters that Hawaii Votes by Mail in 2020. All properly registered voters will receive their ballot in the mail approximately 18 days prior to the election.
